Caroline Mutoko has been at Kiss 100 FM for just about a decade. She joined the station after a protracted legal battle between Capital FM and Kiss 100. In more than a decade, she has set the stage for radio and she draws admirers and critics in equal measure. Her no-nonsense talk has found her in the wrong side of the law a few times, where she has had to appear in the dock a few times. She may talk to you nicely if you appear to be knowledgeable or know how you are doing. On the contrary, she will talk down to you if you appear to be have very little knowledge or just plain foolish. She has thus become one of the most talked about Kenyan celebrities in the Kenyan celebrity gossip sites and blogs.
Given the intense competition between radio stations for the advertisers, one would need a really tough skin in order to get the lucrative advertising revenue. For any media station, ad revenues are the business lifeline. Granted, there are many upcoming radio presenters that can match Caroline’s talk on radio. However, her emotional connection to the brands that she is promoting is probably what sets her apart. It appears that many clients readily sign up when they know that she is the one promoting their brands. Of course, the media is evolving fast and one will need to be constantly up to date in order to stay relevant. Probably, there might be some undiscovered talent that is waiting to take her place.
