Kenyatta University Overview

Kenyatta University is located in Thika Road, just a few kilometers from the Nairobi central business district. The vice chancellor is Prof. Olive Mugenda. In the past five years or so, the University structure has changed tremendously, with many buildings coming up and the capacity of the University increasing tremendously. This has seen the University expand to offer many other courses. Some of the new courses to have been introduced recently includes engineering, medicine and pharmacy. However, the engineering program has come under heavy scrutiny from the Engineering Registration Board (ERB). ERB has refused to recognize some of the courses offered in Kenyatta University, JKUAT University, University of Nairobi, Masinde Muliro and Egerton University. However, KU was the hardest hit, with over five engineering courses not being recognized by the ERB. However, it remains to be seen whether the courses were really not up to scratch or the ERB had other issues with the University. According to the webometrics January 2011 ranking of Universities, it was ranked among the top 100 universities in the world.
