Kenyan websites-Important hints.

The number of Kenyan websites has been increasing over the years. This is largely due to the fact that the internet penetration has increased. Coupled with this, the need for Kenyan content has also increased. The Kenyan internet content is low and many Kenyan websites are creating great content online. However, there are certain issues that are going to affect Kenyan web developers.

1. The National Commission and Integration Commission (NCIC), has indicated that it will move to curb hate speech in the social media. Granted, there is a fine line between media censorship and media freedom. The kind of garbage being spewed in the internet is largely a reflection of the average Kenyan talk behind closed doors. Many top Kenyan websites largely thrive on such talk since it ignites passion which in turn increases the audience for that website. A list of the most popular websites in Kenya, US, UK and abroad will reveal that some of the websites clearly thrive on such talk.

2. Google changed its algorithms in late February. This is likely to affect your website in a number of ways. First, the change in algorithms was necessitated that Google users had started complaining that the quality of searches had become low. In addition, Bing (the search engine by owned by Microsoft) had started making some in roads into the search engine market. Since Google’s main business is to provide users with useful information, it had to act fast. Google changed its algorithms (the formula used to determine which websites are going to rank higher up in the search engines). This change affected about 12% of its searches. Hit hard were low quality content websites. Sites which offer duplicate, copied and shallow content were hit hard. So, if you are wondering why your site is not getting a lot of traffic of late, it could be that the site is filled with a lot of shallow content.
